Weather, Public Works, and Disasters

Seasons, warnings, recoverable emergencies, and the services that protect cities.

← Player GuidesCatalog ID: weather_public_works_and_disasters

Weather belongs to each city

Every city keeps its own latitude-based season and stored weather reading. The selected city checks the server every 15 minutes while provider data remains cached for one hour. Browsing other cities in the weather report shows their stored readings without creating extra provider calls or moving the selected city's live weather.

Weather exists before forecasting

Rain, snow, clouds, temperature, and their gameplay effects happen normally from the start. Meteorology unlocks the Weather HUD, forecast, source details, and exact bonus and penalty readouts; it does not switch weather simulation on.

Local weather stays local

Precipitation and ground effects are centered around the selected city. Drizzle has light particles without puddles, light rain adds shallow puddles, and stronger rain or snow increases particles and accumulation. Strategic views hide local particles so a city storm never covers the world atlas.

Extreme temperatures need supplies

Below 48°F (8.9°C) or above 86°F (30°C), population Food use doubles and each active House consumes 0.25 Timber per game hour for simplified heating or cooling. Comfortable or unavailable weather adds no climate upkeep.

Planetary conditions change slowly

Hemisphere and latitude determine seasons. Rain, snow, wind, heat, drought, floods, storms, lightning, and wildfire create temporary production, movement, flight, shipping, and safety modifiers.

Planning, not punishment

Common weather should shape planning rather than constantly injure players. Major disasters are uncommon, warned clearly, last long enough to notice, and offer response and recovery actions.

Eight readable public works

Sanitation, Healthcare, Education, Public Safety, Transportation, Utilities, Stability, and Infrastructure Maintenance are summarized as service levels. Upgrades cost resources and ongoing maintenance but protect density, productivity, and recovery.

Buildings and policy support services

Houses, districts, transport facilities, technologies, government, regional policies, and modern projects can strengthen services. The Public Works catalog shows the underlying categories and costs.
